There’s something special about small-town events—the kind where everyone shows up, laughter carries down the streets, and for a few hours, nothing else really matters. That’s exactly what we experienced in Cross Plains this year at the very first Great Inflatable Race of 2026.
When we first heard about it, we honestly didn’t know what to expect. A one-mile race…through downtown…in inflatable costumes? It sounded equal parts ridiculous and amazing—and it absolutely delivered on both.
The event was hosted in support of the local Cross Plains Chamber of Commerce, with a simple $25 sign-up fee that made it easy for just about anyone to join in. And people did.

From giant dinosaurs to bouncing unicorns and even a few wobbling ducks and chickens, the creativity alone was worth showing up for.
We decided to jump in ourselves, and I can tell you right now—running (or more accurately, bouncing and waddling) a full mile in an inflatable costume is no small feat. The race wound through downtown Cross Plains, with spectators lining the streets, cheering, laughing, and snapping photos. It felt less like a competition and more like a moving celebration.
Sure, there were winners—first through third place each received a special trophy—but honestly, everyone felt like they won. Every participant walked away with a medal, and more importantly, a story to tell. Somewhere between trying not to trip over our own inflated feet and laughing so hard we could barely breathe, we realized this was one of those moments you just don’t forget.
What made it even better was the sense of community. It may have been a small event, but it had a big heart. Families came out, friends gathered, and for a little while, downtown was filled with nothing but joy and encouragement.

By the time it was over, one thing was clear—this was just the beginning. The Great Inflatable Race isn’t just a one-time quirky idea; it’s the start of something that could easily become a beloved annual tradition.
And if next year is anything like this year, we’ll absolutely be back—maybe with even bigger (and sillier) costumes.

I'm not a yacht owner, but I have a good friend who is, and we spend a lot of summer weekends on his boat. The problem was always that after an hour or two, we'd run out of things to do. Just floating around gets old. So I pitched the idea of buying a few yacht inflatables – a slide, a floating dock, and a water polo goal. Best decision ever. Now we spend hours playing games, sliding, and just having a blast on the water. The inflatables are heavy-duty and feel totally safe even when we're all using them at once. They inflate in minutes with the included pump and pack down into a small bag for storage. We…
